Emergency Medical Services

We are one of five volunteer rescue squads serving Caroline County, Virginia.  Founded in 1953, we are a volunteer-led non-profit corporation dedicated to providing quality and professional service to our citizens.

We are a member of the Rappahannock Emergency Medical Services Council; we also practice under the protocols of the Old Dominion Emergency Medical Services Alliance.

We provide Emergency Medical Services at the Basic and Advanced Life Support levels. All of our released drivers are EVOC certified and safely deliver our patients to the hospitals and their crew members back home.  Service coverage from 5 am to 3 pm Monday - Thursday and 5 am to 6:20 pm Friday - Sunday is provided by Caroline County Department of Fire and Rescue Career Staff.

If the information you require is not found in the following pages, or if you would like information about joining our squad, please do not hesitate to contact us.

No matter your walk in life, your personality type or your background, Emergency Medical Services may suit you.  The media dramatizes what we do, making it look like a constant bloodbath with enough stress and conflict to make you wonder what makes the job worth doing.  However, more often than not, what people need most from the professionals on the ambulance is kindness.

Why EMS may appeal to YOU:

1.  Teachers:  Patient care is based on the fundamentals of learning; the A-B-C's and the 1-2-3's.

2.  Automotive Professionals:  Have you ever noticed the similarities between a vehicle and the human body?  Consider your skin the "hood" of your body; the heart a "pump"; then you throw in a few "hoses"-the veins and arteries- and you can work out the schematics to a well-oiled machine.

3.  Detectives / Reporters:  There is a science to the investigation of an illness.  It involves a certain brand of interrogation, analysis and resolution to make the case.

4.  Stay-At-Home Nurturers:  Don't underestimate the benefit of a kind smile, a soft voice and the ability to listen.

5.  Drivers:  Lights...Sirens; need I say more?

6.  Administrative Professionals:  Outside of the truck, away from the actual patient care there is always the need for someone with an aptitude for documentation, data entry, statistic analysis and paperwork.

7.  Weathermen / Postal Employees:  We repond come rain, shine, sleet or snow.

8.  Financial Workers:  OK, so we don't make money or deal with it...but there is always room for someone with a nose for the fundraising scent.

9. Builders:  As in construction, there are "building blocks" to patient care.  Start at the bottom and build your final product.

10.  Politicians:  Due to legal issues and confidentiality statutes, we are experts at saying alot of words with a basic meaning: "Sorry, I can't tell you that information about this person".
